How did Proactive Marketing build a workplace that reflects and embraces their purpose?

“ ….when I learned about Wellbeing At Work´s approach to the way they tackle Space design, focusing on the people that work in that space, that seemed like a good fit (for us).

Proactive is a successful company with 20 years of experience providing marketing solutions in the UK market. Their main purpose is to ´make life easier not just to their clients but also to their employees´. Such a simple but inspiring aspiration.

However, the workspace was not reflecting this valuable mission. Employees were facing friction points in the office. The main challenge was related to the noise and acoustics: people's voices, traffic, and even awkward silences were creating an unwanted atmosphere. Additionally, as new staff joined, desks were added without any workflow-connection link.

To tackle this, they decided to try a new approach to design for their new office and realised that WAW’s human-centred model fitted perfectly with their purpose. “when I learned about Wellbeing At Work´s approach to the way they tackle Space design, focusing on the people that work in that space, that seemed like a good fit (for us).  Cliff Lay, MD

In order to get to the core of developing the right solution, we first discovered Proactive’s culture through different focus groups, surveys, and one to one meetings with all of the employees. Everyone shared their preferences, concerns and aspirations regarding this ‘new office’.

Then based on our research we produced a tailored Design concept containing solutions that directly addressed our findings. The Proactive team in essence directly helped to influence the primary design parameters through providing provocative and insightful ideas to improve the space.

Once the design package was approved by the leadership team, we developed the construction plan, assisted the design-build through project and asset management, sourced and audited suppliers, and carefully planned the staff movements in line with the evolving design-build stages so as to minimise disruption and maintain productivity.

As a result, Proactive’s new space has reduced friction and increased productivity but more importantly, employees feel valued, happier and understood by their employer. They now have “Not just the right people, but the right people in the right parts of that space” Cliff Lay, MD.
